The Canine Good CItizen Program (CGC) is part of AKC Family Dog Program.

The purpose of the CGC Program is to teach your dog to have good manners at home and in the community. It builds a partnership between owner and dog that results in:

A commitment to responsible dog ownership, and passing the 10-item CGC Test means your dog:

Is under basic instructional control

Can respond to simple commands while on leash

Most importantly, is reliable in the presence of people and other dogs

The AKC Canine Good Citizen award became an official titling program, January 1, 2013. In celebration of dogs with good manners at home and in the community, passing the AKC's Canine Good Citizen test can be recognized as an official American Kennel Club title for all dogs. Owners whose dogs earned the CGC award from January 1, 2001 onward may convert the award into a title by filling out and submitting a form. Contact AKC for further information.

ICCKC has several members certified as CGC evaluators. We offer CGC classes and testing several times a year.
