| Dog Show Etiquette | ![]() |
At our dog shows, you will have a unique opportunity to not only meet breeders, but to meet their dogs. To make sure that your time spent with over a thousand dogs is safe as well as enjoyable, here are a few things you should know in order to avoid any misunderstandings between you, your children, breeders, handlers and of course, the dogs.
1) If you are considering getting a purebred
dog, talk to the breeders and exhibitors - they are experts in their breeds.
2) However tempting,
do not pet a dog without asking for permission first. The dog may have just
been
groomed
in preparation for being judged.
3) If
you bring a baby stroller to a dog show, be careful that you do not run over
any dog's tail or feet, and that your child does not grab or poke the dogs
it can reach. Avoid having them near ring entrances, which are especially
crowded.
4) At each dog show, you will
find vendors and information booths. Many club booths offer helpful information
to the general public.
5) Sorry, you must leave your own
dog at home. By AKC rules, only dogs entered into the dog shows are allowed
to be
on the show grounds. However, you may want buy your pet a great toy or
bone or collar from any of the vendors who will be selling a range of doggie
items at the show!
By respecting the dogs and using a little
common sense, you and your family will have a wonderful time meeting many
breeds of dogs and their owners. Remember to bring your camera, and wear
comfortable shoes.
